Thought: Steve Grundmeier - "Service begins with understanding - and understanding begins with listening One of the quietest ways we learn to listen is by reading. As Jorge Luis Borges said, 'I have always imagined the Paradise will be a kind of library'. A library is more than a building filled with books - it is a treasury of human experience. And as C.S. Lewis reminded us, 'We read to know we are not alone'. When we read literature, we step into lives not our own We feel struggles we have not endured and see hopes we have not yet imagined. That empathy shapes better neighbors, better leaders and better servants. Yet studies show that only about six in ten adults read even one book in a year Imagine the transformation in our communities if more people embrace the habit of thoughtful reading. As Rotarians, committed to Service Above Self, may we continue to be people who seek understanding - who read not just for knowledge, but for compassion - and who turn the wisdom we gain from books into action for others."
